Preston Hoists provided vertical Access solutions to builders during the construction of multi story buildings in both Victoria and South Australia. At the time the business was started the man and material hoist business in Australia was predominately serviced by Alimak (the manufacturer of the hoists) and Coates Conrent. Both were running fleets of Alimak hoists. Within 18 months of starting the business Preston Hoist became the largest supplier of man and material hoists in Victoria (dominated by Alimak) and South Australia (dominated by Coates)
Preston Hoists provided a full service offering from refurbishment, maintenance, erection, operation, through to dismantling. The offered both short and long term rental as well as sales.

Alimak P400
Smaller rack and pinion man and material hoist offering easy accessibility in confined spaces and had a capacity of 400 kg.

Alimak 10/20
Rack and pinion man and material hoist with a capacity of 1,000 kg and an internal dimensions of 1.3m x 2.0m.

Alimak 20/32
Rack and pinion man and material hoist with a capacity of 2,000 kg and an internal dimensions of 1.5m x 3.2m. These made up the majority of the fleet.

Pega HS 20/32
Preston Hoist was the first to import this hoist into the Australian market. The Pega was a state of the art high speed rack and pinion man and material hoist. It also had a capacity of 2,000 kg and an internal dimensions of 1.5m x 3.2m. This innovative design offered speeds of 85 m/min without the need for counterweights (which the Alimak HS model required), thus keeping erection and jumping costs in line with standard hoists.

Alimak Mast climbers
Mast Climbers offered easy access to the facade of the building for such work as cladding and glazing.
ASX listed Coates Hire purchased the business to add to it’s Coates Conrent Division.
After running this business for a few years, Coates Conrent was then sold to Alimak/Hek
